What are Implants?

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth implanted into the jaw bone. It is generally made of titanium and covered with a porcelain crown or a bridge to give the appearance of real teeth.

Replicating the natural function and appearance of your lost teeth can be very difficult to accomplish.

Historically, dentures or bridge restorations would be used as replacements, but with limited results. Dental implants, however, are natural-looking replacements for missing teeth that also provide the same function as your natural tooth root. They have also been used to anchor these other types of restorations for greater success and patient satisfaction.

Types of Implants

Endosteal Implants: An implant made of endosteal that is directly placed into the jaw bone. Once healed, a post is connected to the endosteal, followed by the artificial tooth.

Subperiosteal Implants: An implant that is placed onto the bone rather than into the bone itself.  The metal frame is attached under your gum tissue. The metal frame contains small metal posts that are used for anchors to the artificial tooth.

Why come to Jonathan Dental Spa New Jersey Office?

The success rate for implants is remarkable: 98 percent for lower implants and 91 percent for upper implants. And at our dental office individuals may have even higher success rates.

Many people who consider implants have removable, conventional dentures for lower and upper jaws, or have removable bridges. These people experience a significant improvement in their ability to chew food comfortably after their dental implant treatment.

Implants offer a permanent aesthetic solution to missing teeth. Strong, durable and natural in appearance, implants done at in our New Jersey office are among the most successful dental procedures performed.

Why consider a replacement:

  • Partial Denture Support
  • Fill in a missing gap (where a tooth was extracted)
  • Increase stability of Upper and Lower Jaws
  • Increase confidence in your smile
  • Improve appearance in overall health

Dental implants are used to counter tooth loss with artificial tooth replacements.

The procedure is categorized as a form of prosthetic (artificial replacement) dentistry, though it also falls into the category of cosmetic dentistry as well.

Although you have a number of restorative options for the treatment of missing teeth, none have proven to be as functionally effective and durable as implants. In many cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting structures.

In 1952, the first dental implants were developed and since that time technology has taken leaps and bounds to give us the most modern solution for missing teeth. Dental implants can help prevent further dental related problems in your mouth. It helps to prevent further shifting and jaw problems.  An Implant can also help improve your smile confidence.

What Dr Jonathan Abenaim Says About the Benefits of Replacing a Tooth Immediately

Replacing a loss tooth with an  implant can help in many ways.   It will retain your oral health by preventing bone loss, reducing movement of surrounding teeth and avoiding excess decay and  “if you have the bone get the implant in – as once it is in – the bone will not get any worse!”

Teeth provide more functions than just the ability to chew.

They are necessary for the health of the gum and jaw tissues as well, and a prolonged absence of a tooth will severely limit the possibilities for restorations.

Missing teeth may also affect your confidence and well-being.

Treatment with dental implants is complicated and takes pains-taking planning for best results but Dr Abeniam has a proven record and his education in this field is second to none.

Seeking to further his education in Implant Dentistry, Dr. Abenaim attended an Advanced Implant Prosthodontic Residency at Nova Southeastern University which improved his skills in treatment planning, implant dentistry and full mouth rehabilitation.

He then improved his knowledge and skills in Oral Implantology in one of the oldest continuing education residency programs in the country at the Atlantic Coast Dental Research Clinic in Palm Beach Florida under the guidance of world renowned implantologists.

Since then he has continued to pursue his interest in dental implants becoming a board-certified implantologist and Diplomate of The International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).

Today the implants being placed often only require one surgical procedure using a local anesthetic and sedative and the actual crown can sometimes be positioned in as short a time as 30 minutes. When you come to the specialized offices of Dental Implants New Jersey – Dr Abenaim himself works the final part of the implant procedure as well – placing the crowns upon the posts.

If you have any questions about which implants are best for you – ask Dr Abenaim – Your teeth are in fine hands at Jonathan Dental Spa.
